Meet Job Descriptions

    Swim Meet Jobs

Floater

  • Floaters are expected to work the entire meet and fill in where the jobs coordinators deem necessary
  • May be asked to be a timer, cafe worker, runner, shepherd or ribbons worker.
  • Failure to complete this meet job will result in a $75 jobs fine.  This includes showing up late or leaving early.

Cafe Worker

  • Responsible for working in the Stingray Cafe at home meets.
  • Duties can include: setting up, selling food items, working the drink counter, assisting with the snow cone machine, collecting money, running to the store if necessary.
  • Early Shift:Wednesday Shift: 3:30-6:45. Saturday Shift: 7:45-11:00am
  • Late Shift:  Wednesday Shift 6:15-9:30pm,  Saturday Shift  10:30-1:45pm
  • Failure to complete this meet job will result in a $75 jobs fine.  This includes showing up late or leaving early.

Runner

  • You must check in with the Head Timer 30 minutes prior to the start of the meet.
  • Run record sheets from Recorders/Timers to Computer Table. This is to be done after the completion of each event.
  • You will be required to work the entire meet.
  • Failure to complete this meet job will result in a $75 jobs fine.  This includes showing up late or leaving early.

Shepherds

  • Report to the Head Shepherds at least 30 mins prior to the start of the meet to receive detailed info
  • Shepherds line up the 6U and 7/8 swimmers for their races by heat and lane. Although it is ultimately the parents' responsibility to be sure their children get into their races, the shepherd is the one to be sure the kids are all assembled correctly, both for individual races and relays. 
  • Remain in the lane until all swimmers in your group are in the water.
  • You should plan to stay for the entire meet, through the 7/8 Free Relay event.  Although you are not working the entire meet, you are working on/off until the last event (Free Relay)
  • A Head Shepherd will help you locate missing swimmers.
  • This job is ideal for parents with first time swimmers
  • This job will accommodate those with small children, as you can bring them with you while you shepherd
  • Failure to complete this meet job will result in a $75 jobs fine.  This includes showing up late or leaving early.

Ribbons Worker

  • You will need to check in at the beginning of the meet and then report to the Ribbons Table one hour after the meet begins.
  • Duties include placing computer generated labels onto ribbons and filing ribbons into family folders, during the meet
  • Your duties may not be completed until an hour after the last event of the meet.
  • Please select another volunteer position if you are not able to stay until your job is finished
  • Failure to complete this meet job will result in a $75 jobs fine.  This includes showing up late or leaving early.

Timer

  • All timers will be required to work the entire length of the meet and must check in with the Head Timer 30 minutes prior to the start of the meet.
  • Relief timers will be available to fill in for short periods of time so that timers can take bathroom or food break.
  • Three timers per lane use stopwatches to determine swimmers' times.
  • Watches and instructions are available at the beginning of each meet.
  • This job is a great way to see all the action in the pool.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Not recommended if you are alone with a small child to take care of during the meet
  • Failure to complete this meet job will result in a $75 jobs fine.  This includes showing up late or leaving early.

Parking Attendant

  • Report to Meet Director or Jobs Coordinator
  • Direct cars to drop off area, instruct visiting team on where to park as needed, ensure that cars are not left unattended in the Red Zone or Handicapped Parking
  • Ensure that reserved parking remains reserved.
  • Ensure safe flow of cars, swimmers and parents.

Stroke & Turn 

Filled by members of the Stroke & Turn committee who have completed the S&T training.
